Over the colder seasons the garden can be a very difficult thing to keep on top of!
If you’re not being chilled to the bone by the cold, you’re being swept aside by gale force winds or being drowned by the wintry rains. So as the sun starts to creep back into our lives now is the time to give our gardens back some of that T.L.C they had been used to. No longer just the entranceway to your home but a relaxing place to enjoy.
1.The first place to check is not always an obvious one but, after the wind and rain, often gutters can get blocked up with leaves etc. that have been blown in the wind. It is important to Clean your gutters annually as a blocked gutter can cause water to run down the front of the house and not through drainage pipes. This will not only affect the appearance of the house and in turn the garden but it can cause water damage to the house structure.
All you will need is a ladder, some gloves and some bins bags. The rest is just a matter of removing any debris.
2.Before you can begin to think about doing anything with the lawn you will firstly need to do a bit of a garden cleanup. Any fallen twigs or branches and the rest of the winter remnants should be picked up. Not picking them up will mean that your lawn mower blades will get blunted over time and you will need to replace the blades a lot sooner. The best way to get this stuff out of the way is usually just by raking them up. Cutting back overgrown branches in bushes and hedges will give you a clear space to get creative later. Bypass loppers can be used for small branches whilst handsaws or chainsaws may be better for bigger ones.
.
3.As your garden stands right next to your house your home exterior plays a big part in how your garden is viewed or how it feels. It can be a good idea to pressure washer the front of the house to refresh it from the battering it will have taken over the cold months. A pressure washer is also good for cleaning the decking in the garden. It will get into those small areas that may have become clogged by dirt or leaves.
4.With the damage and dirt removed, we can now look to the lawncare and the life growing in the garden. The lawn can be mowed and weeds and moss can be removed. We have many weed killer and moss killer products in store and online that will help you get rid of these niggling problems. Most products are as simple to use as pouring over the problem areas and waiting on them to deal with the problem. The only thing you have to consider is the timing of the treatment. Most will state that they should only be used a certain length of time after mowing and also not to mow for a few days after treating and you can be certain that any product will tell you not to use if you are expecting rain! The product must be allowed to work first before it is washed away, but I am sure we have a few sunny days on their way to us!
5.Lastly, and this is without a doubt my favourite part of the garden, the part where we add all the colour and character to the garden. Fertilising and seeding. Go mad with choice with all the many seeds and plants that are available out there. Add your own style. Add some decking, garden furniture, a kids adventure playground or just a splash of colourful flowers that will add to the brightness of your garden when our summer finally arrives.
